THE CHALLENGE

Building a hot air balloon that fits through the door. A lot of our experience pays off when we are presented with logistical challenges where solutions work their way into the building process. It’s nice to build something and deliver it to the location, but walking a hot air balloon in through the front door was just not going to work at this REDKEN shop in NYC.

We had a design challenge on our hands that went beyond the build, but carried over into the installation. We stage everything at Honey Badger Fabrication in order to experience the install process with each piece, but to also iron out any kinks. The entire balloon was built and staged in-house, then dismantled so that it could be walked through the door and rebuilt onsite with no headaches. Using unique rigging concepts, vinyl design, and foam sculpting, we were able to create an experience that truly felt lighter than air.
